History of Kookaburra Belted Galloways
Glen and Karen Prien moved to a small farm outside of Launceston, Tasmania in September, 2002 so that they could share a hobby with their four boys (Fergus, Cameron, Sean, and Lachlan) and to also give their sons an appreciation of the agricultural industry that they grew up in.
Kookaburra Belted Galloway stud began when Glen and Karen purchased their first two Belted Galloways from Rodney and Dianne Smith, who ran the Myrtlevale Stud, in late 2002. Over the years Glen and Karen had made several key additions to their stud, including when they purchased Karandrea Wisteria from Rob and Jan Davidson, and the stud bulls Ashleigh Wildfire, Ashleigh Esquire, and Ashleigh Luigi from Ashleigh Michael.
Throughout the years we have shown our Belted Galloways around Tasmania with considerable success, picking up multiple 'Grand Champion' awards for both our females and males in competitive classes. While we are proud of these achievements in the show ring, what we are most proud of is that our selective breeding program has allowed to consistently breed well-structured, larger framed Belted Galloway cattle that look great in the paddock and more than do their bit to fill the freezer.
In 2021, Glen Prien sadly passed away after a battle with cancer. Karen now runs the stud with the help of her sons.
