History of Kookaburra Belted Galloways
Glen and Karen Prien moved to a small farm outside of Launceston, Tasmania in September, 2002 so that their four boys (Fergus, Cameron, Sean, and Lachlan) would be able to appreciate the agricultural industry and also get away from the city lifestyle. In September of 2002, Glen and Karen purchased one pregnant Belted Galloway cow with a bull calf at foot, and a two year old heifer from Rodney and Dianne Smith, who ran the famous, but now defunct, Myrtlevale Belted Galloway Stud. In 2003 the national Belted Galloway show was held in Launceston, and Glen and Karen purchased a number of females to increased their herd numbers. Among these females that was purchased was Karandrea Wisteria who has served as the matron of our herd, and besided the purchase of Ashleigh Kismit in 2015 all of our present herd can be traced back to the Wisteria line of females.
